14-May-12

What a climax to the Premiership it was yesterday afternoon. Although I was disappointing that my bet never ever looked like coming to fruition, it was a wonderful advert for our game (unless of course you are a red devil fan)!

Before that I got out for another short cycle ride (7 miles) and a cider en route.
Thomas made up for his lack of a ride on the Saturday by cycling up to Box Hill and back. Quite an achievement considering the round trip was over 20 miles!

My landmark poser from yesterday was related to the Golden Hinde and Sir Francis Drake’s knighthood, which was awarded in Deptford, my birthplace. The most unlikely place for any ceremonies of this kind today!

Today’s poser relates to King William Street, the street our Bank office resides in.

Between 1890 and 1900 it housed something that had a Spanish solution. What was it?

It’s been a bit of a manic day in the office today with my priorities being juggled due to budget re-forecast challenges. All good though, as it keeps me on my toes!

In terms of meetings, I had a one-2-one with one of my direct reports to review their objectives and other meetings to look at migrating our telephone call statistics to our MIS system (been discussing this one for years) and our ambition to create a world class support function). Although the last two were positive sessions, no specific progress made today of any note!

There are now 74 days to the Olympics. Yesterday’s blog event was related to Deng Yaping, who is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of her sport, which is table tennis.

Today’s Olympian is a gentlemen called Bob Anderson. Although Bob did not become a champion in this sport, he became a legend due to another starring role?

The highlight of the day has to be the idea initiated by our telecoms team to reduce operational costs. Simply routing calls identified as our own published number ranges back over our own network therefore increasing our use of voice over IP. Simple, but effective!
